f:t is a new music trio of three pianists, based in Germany
Bringing three established soloists together, f:t features new and pre-existing repertoire for three pianos, six hands, alternative keyboard instruments, and ad-hoc instrumentations.
f:t aims to subvert competitive and soloistic ideals of traditional piano culture, in addition to challenging the instrument’s inherent eurocentrism. An extensively collaborative unit, f:t takes great care to incorporate their individual artistic visions, as well as collective, in addition to prioritizing influences and partnerships between extra-musical fields.
Most recently, f:t performed Peter Ablinger’s “Grisailles (1–100)” alongside the premiere of “ja nein vielleicht” for three pianos, auxiliary keyboard instruments, and electronics by composer Nicolas Kuhn, supported by the Bernd-Alois-Zimmermann-Stipendium, with guest Miharu Ogura, at Kunst-Station Sankt Peter Köln. Additional recent engagements included appearances at Klangkunst Trier performing Gerhard Stäbler’s Magische Spiele for four pianos (with guest Miharu Ogura), and at Altefeuerwache Köln for the programme triarchic, featuring world premieres by Sophie Youjung-Lee (Korea) and George Katehis (USA/Greece).
In the 2023–24 season, f:t recorded existing works for three pianos by Stefan Wolpe, Peter Ablinger, and Jennifer Walshe, filmed in April 2023 at Fleischmarkthalle Karlsruhe with the generous support of Ensemble Funding from Musikfonds e.V. Later that year, f:t released the video “m-her two severed hands” for piano six-hands, by composer George Katehis, filmed and produced at Musikbrauerei Berlin - watch the video here.
In the 2021–22 season, f:t appeared as guest artists at The Present Art Festival at Kulturzentrum Immanuelskirche in Wuppertal, presented their performance-concept deconstructing at Gedok Stuttgart (supported by Musikfonds e.V. and Neustart Kultur), participated in a Goethe-Institut Virtual Partner Residency to develop a work for piano six-hands, and performed on the programme Ex_Piano_Revisited as part of the series Südseite nachts (Theaterhaus Stuttgart), presented by Musik der Jahrhunderte.
Later that year, f:t released a video of Elena Rykova’s “101% mind uploading”, in collaboration with filmmaker Korinna Herzig, supported by Musik der Jahrhunderte and Stadt Stuttgart.
